The City is a Classroom

$12.00

The City is a Classroom is an educational workbook designed to meet the standard 3rd grade Social Studies curriculum, but has proven popular with children through adults!

This full color, paperback book includes specific Portland history from the Wabanakis to the city’s railroad connections to the Great Fire of 1866. Additionally, the book includes historic site specific pages that allow children to connect with history at a physical (and visit worthy!) location in the city. The activities, graphics, and language are all designed to keep children engaged throughout the entire text.

Revised in 2013, this edition was generously funded by the Leonard C. and Mildred F. Ferguson Foundation and the CPB Foundation. It was a collaborative project with the Victoria Mansion, Tate House Museum, Maine Historical Society, Abyssinian Meeting House, Friends of Evergreen Cemetery, Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad, and Fifth Maine Museum.
