 | Pieces of Eight
England forbade the early Americas to mint coins, so foreign currency such as the Spanish Milled Dollar was often used. Coins were broken into eight pieces so fractions could be spent, as value was not “face value” but based on metal weight. These coins are a reproduction of the Spanish silver coin cast in lead-free pewter. Contains one whole dollar, 8 bits, 4 quarters and 2 half-dollars, which when reassembled create 4 whole coins. Price: $2.95
