Frances W. Peabody, 1903-2001

The Frances W. Peabody Research Library.

The Frances W. Peabody Research Library was founded by the Greater Portland Landmarks Advisory Service, a volunteer group which offers preservation and restoration advice to homeowners and documents historic buildings. Members’ own specialized source material was the seed for the library’s collection today.

In 1983, the library was dedicated as the Frances W. Peabody Research Library, named for one of GPL’s most hardworking, generous and knowledgeable members. Frannie was a great supporter of the library until her death in 2001. Thanks to gifts from generous donors and to carefully selected purchases, the library has grown over the years to become the most extensive preservation collection north of Boston. We hope that you will visit the Peabody Library soon.

Open Tuesday – Thursday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

The Library is located at 93 High Street in Portland, Maine. Research assistance is available by appointment. Please email us or call 207-774-5561 for more information.
