Greater Portland Landmarks
Greater Portland Landmarks preserves and revitalizes Greater Portland’s remarkable legacy of historic buildings, neighborhoods, landscapes and parks. We maintain a calendar of public educational programs and special events throughout the year. For homeowners, we offer historic house research and marker programs, Preservation in Action workshops, and connect historic property owners with resources and information. We advocate on behalf of historic preservation throughout the region. We also operate the Portland Observatory (1807), the last remaining maritime signal tower in the country, and the William Safford House (1858), which is our headquarters. We offer tours of Portland’s U.S. Custom House (1872), and tours of various neighborhoods in Portland. We invite you to join us to participate in our programs and to support preservation in the greater Portland area.
