The Impact of Portland's Urban Renewal Artist Talk and Tour

Join Director of Advocacy, Julie Larry and  Artist, John Sundling for an artist talk and guided tour along India Street and in the Old Port discussing the impact of Urban Renewal on Portland's immigrant neighborhoods in the mid-20th Century.  Julie Larry conducted and compiled much of the research that lead to the designation of the India Street Local Historic District. John Sundling is the artist of the latest TEMPOart installation. Ghost Fence, considers what was lost when the Franklin Street neighborhood was razed in the 1960's.  "John Sundling’s piece utilizes the visual language of surveying and construction, using flagging tape, simple wood poles and plastic sheeting to create a “ghost fence” that outlines the original boundaries of Lincoln Park."

This tour will begin at Ghost Fence with John Sundling, discussing his work.  Afterwards, Julie Larry will guide participants  through the neighborhoods most affected by Portland's urban renewal.
