Join Greater Portland Landmarks for a Walking Tour of the India Street Neighborhood!
Explore the immigrant history of Portland’s earliest neighborhood and experience the newly installed Portland Brick: A Project in Building Public Memory, a place-based public art installation.
The India Street neighborhood was home to successive waves of immigrants from Europe and the Mediterranean. Their stories, and our City’s story, are reflected in the architecture of the buildings that remain. On this walking tour learn more about the neighborhood’s immigrant history, the impact the Great Fire of 1866 and Urban Renewal had on the neighborhood’s residents and buildings, and the memories and stories that make this neighborhood unique.
Meet your guide outside Arabica Coffee House at 9 Commercial Street.
Please note, the rain date is May 25th.
Registration is required and the tour cost is $10 per person. Please RSVP to Julie Larry at 774-5561 x102, or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
