Architectural Bingo Card
Definitions to most of the terms used above>>
Ways to use this card:
A. Play "Outdoor Bingo"
- Find some friends or a family member to play this game with you.
- Print a copy of the bingo card for each player
(see instructions to print Architectural Bingo Card, item E. below).
- You and the other players visit an older neighborhood in your community.
Be sure that each player has:
(a) a copy of the bingo card,
(b) a pencil or pen,
(c) a clipboard or other smooth, hard surface on which to write on the bingo card.
- Walk through the neighborhood and look at the buildings. Try to find the
architectural features found on the bingo card. When you
find one, write the address of the house on the bingo card block that shows the
feature you found.
- The first person to find five features in a row, calls "BINGO" and wins.
The center block marked "FREE" counts as one block; so if your row runs
through it, you have to find only four houses with the features on the card to call
"BINGO" and win the game.
B. Play "On-line Bingo".
Hunt for houses showing features on the Greater Portland Landmarks web site
pages.
- Print out one bingo card (see
instructions to print Architectural Bingo Card, item E. below).
- Browse through the many pages of the Greater Portland Landmarks web site and look for
buildings which have the features shown in the blocks
on the bingo card.
- When you find a building with one of the features, write its web page address on that
block. If there is more than one building on the page, write the name or number of
the building that has the feature. Then continue looking for other features..
- Can you find all of the features? They are all somewhere in our web site.
C. Play "On-line Bingo" with another person.
- You can play this game with another person using the same computer.
- Print out a bingo card for yourself and one for each other
player (see instructions to print Architectural Bingo Card, item E. below).
- Set a timer or have someone time you for five minutes and see how many features you can
locate on the Greater Portland Landmarks web site within five minutes.
- Once your time is up, let the next player browse for five minutes and see how many
features that player can find.
- Who found the most features in five minutes? That's the winner.
D. Play the game the same game as in B. or C. but use other web sites for
reference
- You can play the game by yourself as in B. above or with other players as in C.
Here is a list of a few web sites with pictures of buildings which have some of the
architectural features found on the bingo card.
