Welcome to Greater Portland Landmarks
our homes, our neighborhoods, our future

Annual Appeal

We shape our buldings; thereafter, our buildings shape us”
Sir Winston Churchill, 1874-1965

Today, tourists, young people, retirees and businesses flock to Portland for its unique sense of place.  They’ve discovered what many residents have known for years – that the special character of our city resides in its historic architecture, rich maritime history, walkable neighborhoods, and the civic spirit of its people.  Greater Portland Landmarks is working hard to preserve our wonderful historic neighborhoods, buildings, and landscapes while encouraging the best in new, compatible architecture that will shape our city’s future.

Please join our efforts by contributing to the 2007-2008 Greater Portland Landmarks Annual Appeal.  Your support is essential to Landmarks’ goals to:

  • move ahead with plans to create a Center for Architecture and Preservation,
  • educate thousands of children and adults through Observatory visits and walking tours of historic neighborhoods,
  • advocate for great architecture as the Eastern Waterfront is redeveloped,
  • present programs and events highlighting preservation best practices,
  • serve as a resource for homeowners, community leaders, teachers, students, researchers, and everyone interested in architecture and history, and
  • expand outreach to the public through an exciting redesign of our web site!

By reaching out to all people - young and old, property owners, educators, and political leaders, we are working hard to preserve and enhance the special qualities that make the greater Portland area a great place to live.

To accomplish our mission, Greater Portland Landmarks needs your help. We hope to raise an additional $18,000 by June 30, 2008 to meet our yearly goal. Your gift would provide essential support for all our community education programs, advocacy and preservation resources.

Thank you for considering a gift to the 2007-2008 Annual Appeal!
